Tesla Inc TSLA may introduce a new 'Avoid Highways' feature to its in-car navigation system, according to CEO Elon Musk. During a livestream on X Sunday night, Musk indicated the addition when a viewer inquired about the possibility of such an update.
His response, “Alright, sure,” shared by Teslarati, suggests that the feature will soon become a reality for Tesla owners.
The new feature will be particularly useful for customers utilizing Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability. It will allow them to conduct more comprehensive testing off highways and in more challenging driving scenarios. This addition is expected to enhance the testing and overall driving experience, providing a broader range of environments for FSD functionality.
Tesla's in-car navigation system is renowned for its advanced and accurate performance. It already includes features like live traffic updates and a user-friendly interface that integrates seamlessly with the vehicles' high-tech systems. The company has a history of consistently adding new features to enhance the driving experience.
Recently, Tesla introduced “marks” to indicate accidents and road closures, similar to features found in Waze, Apple Maps, and Google Maps. While Musk did not specify when the 'Avoid Highways' feature would be implemented, Tesla’s capable software team is likely to integrate it soon, continuing the tradition of innovation and improvement in their navigation technology.
